CLASS OF 1951

CLASS OF 1951 ENDOWMENT FOR ARCHIVES TOTAL AS AT MAY 31, 2018

CLASS REPS: Heather McPherson Ballon, Jean Martin Lawrence and Margaret Fitch Szücs This is one of those years when we’re doing more and more of less – and probably doing it more slowly. We have been in touch with Marjorie Cowan Fish, Dorothy (Dody) Holmes Mitchell (indirectly), Katherine (Kitty) Samis and Frances Ann (Frankie) Dawson Winter . Wendy Wright seems to be getting out and about more than when we last talked. Mary Southey McCarter, Heather McPherson Ballon and Margaret (Marg) Ainslie Tuer are still in their homes, but Jean Martin Lawrence and Judith Bishop Perry have moved into seniors’ residences; Jean’s, happily for us, is in Toronto! Still actively volunteering are Mary Uren Dame and Anne Mackersy Hull – who are busier than ever with their community churches, and Marg Ainslie Tuer – who has even taken on a three-year stint as elder, among other activities. Margaret Norrie McCain continues to pursue early childhood education projects in Canada and abroad. Among our travellers are Elisabeth Marani Bacque , who spent time in the Bahamas as usual. She has been helping her husband with his new book: Spirit Hunters . Joan (Kelly) Kalthoff Burt spent time in Florida with her daughters. Catherine (Cathy) Clark Cameron ’s children took her to Nassau for her 85th birthday. Mary Burbidge Helleiner spent a month with one daughter in Kenora and she visits the other from time to time in Toronto. Elizabeth (Liz) Ogden Meyers will be attending her granddaughter’s wedding in Jamaica, while Mary Crawford Lloyd hosted her grandson’s wedding in Grand Bend. He and his friends came from Australia. Patricia Travers died in White Rock, B.C. last December. Over the years, she published several books despite serious health problems in recent times. Daphne Gilbert Davidson died suddenly in Goderich. She was an

avid bridge player and teacher and a longtime baseball fan. Nancy (Provie) Provan Taylor passed away peacefully and gracefully with her family by her side at Sunset Manor in Collingwood on March 4 in her 86th year. Nancy kept in touch and treasured her many friendships from Havergal College. Classmates, including Liz Ogden Meyers and Joan Taylor Atkin remembered Nancy. Others who attended her memorial service in Collingwood included: Mollyann Clappison Geiselman , Joan Kalthoff Burt, Judith Bishop Perry, Dody Holmes Mitchell and Marilyn Gilbert Anderson . Nancy was laid to rest at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto. Finally, we urge you yet again to donate to the Class of 1951 Endowment for Archives.
