CLASS OF 1970 ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS TOTAL AS AT MAY 31, 2017

CLASS REPS: Margaret (Margie) Ryrie Pacini and Jane Robinson It seems that a number of our classmates have left winter behind for warmer climates! Ginnie Welsman retired last year and has bought a house in Carlsbad, CA as an “escape.” Monica Siig Heron has headed off to Spain for several months. Jane Conlin Shevlen is wintering in Vero Beach, FL. Patricia (Patti) Sheppard Ebright heads south to Tucson. Sally Flatt Brown and Beth Hillary McEwen travelled to the Dominican Republic to whale-watch in Semana. They also travelled with Averill Ambrose to England and Ireland last spring. Beth had an opportunity to visit Nunavut on a two-week contract for the Geological Survey last summer. Averill paints watercolours, volunteers at an animal shelter and enjoys theatre visits to Toronto. Rosemary Russell is heading to Barbados for a weeklong yoga retreat. She enjoys watercolour painting and learning to play the ukulele with a local group. Philippa Samworth and Laurel (Laurie) Vanderburgh did a reverse travel by being Toronto tourists, staying at the Shangri-La Hotel and visiting Queen’s Park, various museums, the Aquarium and, on Halloween weekend, taking a ghost tour of the Elgin Theatre. Philippa also travelled to the States to accompany her daughter, who attended interviews for veterinary colleges. In the family news category, Margaret (Margie) Ryrie Pacini has a new grandson, Brady. Margie has recently returned to tap dancing lessons after many years. Deborah (Debbie) Scott comes to Toronto often to visit her daughter and play with her grandson. Carolyn Pirrie St. Pierre was in San Francisco in February to keep the

grandchildren busy for spring break while their parents worked. Deborah Todd (Toddy) Merritt now has nine grandchildren, with the 10th due in August! Her good news is that she has had a total hip replacement and now walks without pain. Sybil Patterson Reburn ’s son is marrying Sam Woolley 2006, in Palm Springs, CA in April and is hoping to connect with Ninkey Adamson Dalton-Eglee . Ninkey continues in the real estate business in Los Angeles and actively supports a program that builds homes for needy families. Katie Keeley Aeby loves her real estate work and her new spinoff business “Hot Spaces/Cool Places,” which specializes in staging homes for resale. Kathleen (Kathy) Weekes Southee celebrated her birthday last May with a visit from Jill Bennett . They had dinner with Carolyn Bennett 1968 in the parliamentary restaurant. Jill has been busy this winter with her dogsledding business, but the recent winter weather remains a challenge. She is still trying to find the perfect spot to retire. Carole Rubin stepped down as artistic director and co-ordinator of the Pender Harbour Jazz Festival. She plans to reopen her healing touch practice in the spring. Katharine Howarth Fletcher continues with her work as a travel and environmental journalist. She has a new art studio in which to create her spirit horse series on canvas, ceramic tiles and woodblock prints. Barbara (Barbie) Smith Cuffley has retired from teaching skating but still works in the health-care system in Calgary. As for me, I continue with advocacy for community issues. I joined the new Y nearby and am loving aquafit classes and socializing with new friends.
