Boarding School Handbook 2025-26
Campus Restriction Restriction to campus is a common consequence for a variety of rules infraction such as not signing out properly, failing room checks and repeated violations of late lights. When a student is restricted to campus, they may not leave the Havergal College campus, except for required school obligations. Students may participate in Boarding on-campus programming, however they may not order take-out or use delivery services and participate in optional off-campus school activities. Parents and guardians are expected to support the school by not signing out the student. Parents and students cannot negotiate or reschedule a restriction or any consequence to accommodate personal plans. Staff will communicate with parents when a student is restricted to campus. Boarding Agreements When a student has violated a major rule and/or repeatedly failed to meet expectations, they will be placed on a behavioural agreement. While on a behavioural agreement, a student must follow all Boarding policies and guidelines, and meet the expectations set forth under the conditions of the contract. Students under this status must demonstrate a willingness to uphold the ideals of the Boarding community through responsible action, a positive attitude and co-operation in all areas. Dance Policy Boarding students may attend dances held for their grade level hosted by Havergal as well as by other COSSOT schools with which Havergal is associated. COSSOT rules and regulations apply to all school sanctioned events. Student attendance is at the discretion of the Boarding Staff. Fire Precautions Fire doors, smoke detectors and heat sensors in rooms, corridors and fire escape routes are checked regularly by the Facilities Department. Fire drills are held frequently. Tampering with any fire equipment is a criminal offence. The burning of incense or candles in the Boarding School is strictly forbidden as is the use of any open flame, including lighters.
