Boarding School Handbook 2023-24

Section 12: Policies, Procedures and Expectations Havergal College Family Handbook The 2023-24 Family Handbook outlines daily life at Havergal (all about our community, traditions, academic and wellbeing supports, co-curricular opportunities and more). There is also a Havergal Policy Library, where you can find all of the school’s Agreements, Policies and Guidelines. At all times Boarding students are expected to comply with the policies, expectations and guidelines outlined therein. Please read and familiarize yourself with all sections of the Havergal Policy Library, including, but not limited to, the Havergal Code of Conduct, Restriction on Cannabis Policy, Harassment Policy, Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement—Upper School and Media Consent Policy. These documents underpin all aspects of the Boarding Program. Annual Boarding Program Agreement The Annual Boarding Program Agreement form will be sent to you as a PDF document at the end of August. Please sign, scan and return this agreement to the Head of Boarding via email prior to your child’s arrival in Boarding. Boarding Program Activities Permission Requirement Boarding families are sent a link to the Boarding Program’s Acknowledgement and Assumption of Risk (AAR) permission form for Boarding Program Excursions through Havergal College’s Veracross System in August. This form allows Boarding students to participate in all Boarding Program excursions. Day School Excursions Permission Requirement You will be sent a link through Havergal College’s Veracross System to the school’s Acknowledgement and Assumption of Risk (AAR) Permission form for each Day School related excursion in which your child wishes to participate in throughout the year. If you are unable to approve the form electronically, the Head of Boarding may do so on your behalf (at the request of the Day School) for excursions with fees up to $200. If any excursions exceed a fee of $200, parents/guardians are the ONLY persons who may approve such excursions. These charges will appear in your monthly invoice from Havergal College. Local Guardian Requirement During the school year, your child’s home-away-from-home is Havergal Boarding. However, there are long weekends, holidays and optional leave weekends when students must leave the Boarding School. Each family living outside of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) must identify a Local Guardian (in the GTA) who will act on your behalf in the case of health or disciplinary issues and to serve as a host family if required. If your child is not staying in Boarding or returning home during school holidays, long weekends or optional leave weekends, they may stay with their Local Guardian.
